About the Indiana Beekeeping School


Classes forming NOW

  • First held in January 2003. Subsequently documented in Indianapolis Star and American Bee Journal
  • Target audience: gardeners with NO beekeeping knowledge or experience
  • Class size: 20 - 60 participants
  • Structure: Powerpoint presentations, separated by hands-on workshops. In 2012, presentation takes entire single day
  • Content: From basic introduction of bees, beekeeping and hives to Spring, Summer, Fall management, disease and parasite management. Powerpoint notes and other printed material is provided ONLY to people to fully attend the class. Textbooks are provided with full primary tuition only. Discounts for 2nd and 3rd family members are because textbooks are not provided.
  • Workshops: Participants who purchase the beginners hive kit will assemble enough of their own hives so they can take home and complete.
  • Subsequent Meetings: There are no subsequent meetings but small groups of graduates are invited to Bluffwood Creek Apiary to experience hands-on experience, even before their own bee arrive.
  • Support & Resources: Participants will join a statewide mailgroup of previous graduates where they can pose questions and receive support. Participants must have e-mail.
