Classes forming NOW
- First held in January 2003. Subsequently documented in Indianapolis Star
and American Bee Journal
- Target audience: gardeners with NO beekeeping knowledge or experience
- Class size: 20 - 60 participants
- Structure: Powerpoint presentations, separated by hands-on workshops. Must attend Friday evening AND Saturday.
- Content: From basic introduction of bees, beekeeping and hives to Spring, Summer, Fall management, disease and parasite management. Powerpoint notes and other printed material is provided ONLY to people to fully attend the class.
- Workshops: Participants will completely assemble their own hives, and take home to finish with paint or stain.
- Subsequent Meeting: Participants meet again in
May to receive their honeybees, and watch a demonstration of installation. They take this knowledge and their own bees and repeat the process with their own hives.
- Support & Resources: Participants will join a statewide mailgroup of previous graduates where they can pose questions and receive support.
Participants must have e-mail. Additionally, experienced beekeepers are available to help and mentor.
